Disaster Movie

watch new hot trailer

The filmmaking team behind the hits "Scary Movie," "Date Movie," "Epic Movie" and "Meet The Spartans" this time puts its unique, inimitable stamp on one of the biggest and most bloated movie genres of all time -- the disaster film. DISASTER MOVIE follows the comic misadventures of a group of ridiculously attractive twenty-somethings during one fateful night as they try to make their way to safety while every known natural disaster and catastrophic event -- asteroids, twisters, earthquakes, the works -- hits the city and their path as they try to solve a series of mysteries to end the rampant…

The Dark Knight

sets box office record

Holy box-office, Batman! When the Joker's on the loose, your city needs saving, and the fate of the world hangs in the balance, there's only one superhero you need call. The Mummy III

undead again

Back in 1999, the world found a suitable stopgap for the decade-long absence of the Indiana Jones series in The Mummy, a spirited popcorn film that captured some of the period-adventure magic that the Indy trilogy had banked on for nine years. Two years, later, The Mummy Returns saturated the formula with computer effects and hyperactive action, but it still managed to become a huge hit. Now, with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the series returns -- ironically in the same summer that witnessed Indiana Jones' revival, making the new Mummy movie's inadequacy all the more evident.

Get Smart

#1 debut at B.O.

Inspired by the classic television show of the same name, "Get Smart" scored big this weekend, easily beating all challengers to come in at #1 at the domestic box office. How good did it do? Would you believe that it made a million dollars for every year it's been off the air? Missed it by that much.

No need to send down the Cone of Silence; with $39.2 million, the revamp exceeded expectations on its way to becoming the biggest live-action opening in Steve Carell's career. (And for the record, "Get Smart" last aired 38 years ago.)

Mamma Mia!

expectations ...

Universal's "Mamma Mia!" came out singing overseas ahead of its domestic launch, dominating in English-speaking markets with $24 million on just 1,368 screens in a dozen territories for a stunning $17,536 per-location average.

The tuner, along with Sony's "Hancock," "Kung Fu Panda" and the Asian-territories debut of John Woo's "Red Cliff," set a torrid pace for a sizzling international box office frame. The four films combined for nearly $160 million, underscoring the resurgence of offshore biz after the Euro Cup soccer tourney held down moviegoing in June.

Bangkok Dangerous PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 06 September 2008
Bangkok DangerousTwin brothers Oxide and Danny Pang have established an impressive reputation in Asian cinema for their takes on everything from classic Japanese horror (the original The Eye) to inventive action films like the original, Thai-language Bangkok Dangerous. But their first American film, The Messengers, was met with general disdain, and unfortunately the English-language revamp of Bangkok Dangerous won't be any help either. For a movie about a ruthless hitman, it's strangely plodding and slow, and any charm Nicolas Cage has shown in the past is completely absent in the role of Joe, the glum hitman gradually revealing heart of gold.
